Stratasys makes Nylon 3D Printing made easy with Nylon 12

Nylon 3D Printing

Stratasys, one of the largest 3D printer and materials manufacturing company in the world has brought some exciting news from the world of FDM technology. A new material called Nylon 12 has been engineered specifically for the Fortus 3D printers (Fortus 900mc, Fortus 400mc and Fortus 360mc). The FDM Nylon 12 is the same Nylon material that is popular in the traditional manufacturing industry for the exceptional price-performance. Nylons are the third most commonly used engineering thermoplastic and this is the first time that Nylon has made its way into the Fused Deposition Modeling sector and has given unparalleled results.

The company announced the latest material at the Euromold 2013. The company also states that the materials built with this material are tough as well as flexible. The material offers up to five times greater resistance than other existing materials. It has more resistance over any other additive manufacturing technology and has an excellent chemical resistance. These properties can create a new opportunity for 3D printers in the field of aerospace, automotive, home appliances and consumer electronics for creation of durable parts that can withstand high vibration, repetitive stress and fatigue, because of this property of this material it can take on everything from tools, jigs and fixtures to covers, panels and vibration resistance components.

At present the material is available in black and is paired with SR110 which is a new soluble support material used to optimize FDM Nylon 12. The support removal requires no labor and can be conveniently washed away by the same cleaning agent used for other FDM soluble supports.
